Last week, public discussions were held with the participation of DECIDE project experts in the Karlivka, Lanna, and Martynivka communities.
The discussions focused on the most pressing issues, namely how to establish an academic lyceum and make specialised education accessible to all school students.
The central issue in the Karlivka community is establishing an academic lyceum, which is set to open on 1 September 2027.
In the Lanna and Martynivka communities, the demographic challenge is that there are not yet enough schoolchildren for three profiles to be formed.
Therefore, the communities are looking for a joint solution: they are planning to join forces and establish a single educational centre.
Despite the challenging political and security situation in Karlivka, the community is refusing to give up.
Resuming public discussions and local council meetings is an important step towards sustainable development. Responsible local authorities and open dialogue with educators and parents enable decisions to be made that determine the future of the community.
During the consultation, the DECIDE expert team – Alla Bondar, Olena Hulenko and Yurii Orel – helped to resolve the legal, personnel, and logistical issues, and provided practical recommendations for future action.
Topics discussed included:
the creation of a network of educational institutions in communities;
the legal aspects of school re-profiling;
the choice of educational profiles;
student transportation and the use of buses;
opportunities for cooperation between communities in the field of education.
‘The Karlivka community has cooperated with the DECIDE project on several initiatives. We are grateful to the Project representatives for their support and commitment to continuing to assist with the implementation of the education reform in our community,’ said Serhii Bobrytskyi, Acting Mayor and Council Secretary.
