The focus of school nutrition reform today is to provide children in affected regions with a balanced diet. This is why we launched our first culinary hub in the Chernihiv region!

First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska visited the DECIDE culinary hub, created by the Project Team at the Chernihiv Centre for Vocational and Technical Education.

Among those present were Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science, Viktor Mykyta, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, and Andrii Stashkiv, Deputy Minister of Education and Science.

Here, pupils in Grade 5–9 can try their hand at various culinary professions. Chefs from Chernihiv and surrounding communities of the Chernihiv region learn modern approaches to preparing healthy and tasty meals for schoolchildren at the hub, while also improving their skills by mastering new recipes. So far, 48 chefs from 16 communities in the region have already completed training at the hub.

The hub was created within the framework of supporting two reforms: of vocational education and of school nutrition.

‘Even in times of hardship, our children must receive the best opportunities that the country can provide. One of them is quality guaranteed nutrition that gives them the strength and health to study and to live. This is exactly what the school nutrition reform ensures, emphasised the First Lady.

Despite the challenges in the border region, we continue to support not only the restoration of the education system, but also its development. An integral part of this is ensuring adequate nutrition for children affected by the war.
