Organising meals at school or kindergarten involves a whole system that must work effectively.
There are numerous factors to consider, such as procurement, suppliers, sanitary standards and new menu requirements. It can sometimes be hard to know where to start.
To address this, Prometheus has launched a new free online course called “Effective Сatering in Educational Institutions”.
This professional development program is designed for everyone involved in organising food services in educational institutions.
In this course, you will learn how to:
– implement food reform in your institution;
– understand the HACCP system and ensure food safety;
– work effectively with suppliers;
– plan menus, keep records and organise a cafeteria;
– communicate with parents, students and the wider community.
The course is taught by experts from the DECIDE project, the Ministry of Education and Science, the procurement sector, and nutrition science. Speakers include Iryna Shumik, Mariia Mishchenkova, Dmytro Solovei, Orest Stepaniak, and others. You will also hear a welcome message from Olena Zelenska, the Ukrainian Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi and chef Yevhen Klopotenko.
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive:
– a certificate of professional development (30 hours/1 ECTS);
– detailed notes for each lecture, as well as additional materials;
– a clear understanding of how to improve the nutrition system in your institution.
The video course was developed as part of the school nutrition reform initiative led by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the Swiss-Ukrainian project 'Decentralization for Improved Democratic Education' (DECIDE), implemented in Ukraine by a consortium consisting of the NGO DOCCU and the Zurich University of Teacher Education (Switzerland), and supported by the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Other partners include the School Meal Reform Team, the State Agency for Professional Procurement, the National Association of Public Catering, and non-governmental organisations such as Food Culture and Cult Food. Additionally, the Etender electronic auction platform — which handles both state and commercial tenders — is also involved, along with Prozorro and Prozorro.Sale.
