Leaders of education authorities of regional military administrations discussed pressing issues of Ukrainian education reform

On 23-25 April, leaders of education authorities of regional military administrations had the opportunity to discuss pressing issues of Ukrainian education reform during a workshop entitled ‘Decentralisation of Education Management,’ organised by the Swiss-Ukrainian DEIDE Project in cooperation with the National Agency for Civil Service and the Higher School of Public Administration.
The workshop served not only as a platform for developing management skills, but also as a venue for lively discussions and exchange of experience between education managers from most regions of Ukraine.
Speakers at the event included the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, Serhiy Koleboshyn, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nadiya Kuzmychova; the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for Digital Development Dmytro Zavgorodniy, the DECIDE Project Manager Valentyna Poltorak, the Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, Nataliia Pipa, and the Team Leader f Component 1 of the DECIDE Project, Larysa Zhabenko.
Together with them, the participants had the opportunity to discuss:
– challenges of senior specialised school reform;
– legislative changes necessary for the implementation of senior specialised school reform, in particular regarding the criteria for forming a network of academic lyceums;
– legislative changes in the field of vocational education, in particular updating approaches to vocational education and mechanisms for its financing;
– areas of implementation of the DECIDE Project in Ukraine.
As part of the discussion on career guidance as a tool for attracting students to vocational education and training, the seminar participants visited:
Boryspil Vocational College, where they toured the renovated culinary hub, which trains production training masters for the entire country, and Kyiv Vocational College of Art Design, where they saw new workshops and laboratories and discussed updated programmes and the system for attracting students to education.
