The modern Regional Resource Centre for Inclusive Education was opened in Kyiv region with the support of local authorities and international partners, in particular DECIDE Project, at the Kyiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education for Teachers.

The Centre was created to provide support and educational guidance for children with special educational needs, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and children who are temporarily residing abroad. The Centre will also provide methodological support to teachers who work with children with special educational needs. The effective implementation of inclusive education is impossible without teachers who are trained to work with children with special educational needs.

The opening ceremony kicked off with a partnership dialogue “Inclusion: Building Prospects for the Future”, during which the participants discussed the development of inclusive education, strengthening international cooperation, the introduction of modern technologies, and the creation of an effective support system.

Valentyna Poltorak, DECIDE Project Manager, and Yuliia Molchanova, DECIDE Coordinator of Component 2, joined the presentation.

The participants could learn about the activities of specialised laboratories and centres equipped with modern facilities and technologies. These included the STEM laboratory, a sensory integration studio, laboratories for deaf education and typhlo-acoustic development, social and daily-life adaptation, aromatherapy and sensory perception, hydrokinetic therapy, an art therapy space, and centres for innovative technologies in inclusion, careers and vocational training, and distance learning. DECIDE Project supported the creation of the career centre and the 365 mobile support team.

The centre takes particular pride in its own mobile support team for communities, equipped with a purpose-built vehicle. The team travels straight to communities to provide methodological and practical assistance to teachers and parents, even in the most remote localities in the region.

Such centres are a valuable foundation for the development of inclusive education, since they bring quality support closer to every child, family, and community, and help to create a barrier-free educational environment for everyone.

The DECIDE project is implemented by NGO DOCCU and PHZH International Projects in Education with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.
