At the end of March, another modern school shelter with an educational space was launched as part of the “DECIDE: Recovery” initiative! The Sukhoplovianskyi Lyceum was renovated and equipped with support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, in cooperation with the Sukhoplovianska community, the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The total cost of renovation amounted to UAH 10.6 million, of which more than UAH 4 million was provided by the DECIDE project, UAH 3.8 million came from the state subvention, and nearly UAH 1.9 million from the community budget.

The 500+ m² shelter now features spacious classrooms, a medical office, an educational hub, and a waiting area fully equipped with comfortable furniture, board games, books, tablets, Wi-Fi, and charging stations. Designed to accommodate 350 students, the shelter has become a model of integrating safety and education.

The project team developed the concept of the shelter as a safe and inclusive educational space. They oversaw the entire setup process, involving construction experts, lawyers, financial specialists, architects, and designers.

Students from grades 7 to 11 also participated in planning the space. DECIDE experts taught school teams how to design and implement projects.

The opening was attended by DECIDE Project Manager Valentyna Poltorak, Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi, head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration Viacheslav Chaus, and the head of the community Denys Rosovskyi.

This is one of 14 shelters with educational spaces created in the Chernihiv region as part of the project.
