Last week, the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE Project team held two advisory meetings with heads of educational institutions and deputy school principals in Ivano-Frankivska community, which is the largest community in the region.

Traditionally, the following topics were discussed:

  • the reasons for implementing the reform and the tasks it addresses;

  • the stages of reform implementation and the strategy for its implementation;

  • the financing models.

DECIDE experts informed participants of important changes in education and provided specific recommendations on transforming the school network, planning specialised secondary schools, and managing resources. During the meetings, they shared best practices from other communities.

The most pressing issues include:

  • a competitive admission process for academic lyceums;

  • testing for current 8th graders for admission in 2027;

  • organisation of transitional classes;

  • the type of educational certificate that gymnasium graduates will receive after 2027.

The Ivano-Frankivsk urban community already has two scientific lyceums and more than ten private educational institutions, as well as nine vocational and technical education institutions. Lyceum No. 2 and the Lyceum named after Roman Shukhevych will continue to operate as academic lyceums in the future. The city also has Lyceum No. 5, which provides a complete education from the first to the twelfth grade in accordance with an international agreement with Germany to teach German.

‘Reforming secondary education involves creating a network of specialised institutions, upgrading infrastructure and preparing teachers and parents for these changes. Having expert support in this process is important, and this is precisely the kind of assistance the community receives through the DECIDE Project. We would like to thank the Project experts for their constructive dialogue and professional responses,’ said Viktoriia Drotianko, Director of the Department of Education and Science at the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council and Deputy Mayor.

As previously mentioned, requests for expert visits can be submitted via the link. Project representatives will then contact you to arrange the time and format of the meeting.

The DECIDE project is implemented by NGO DOCCU and PHZH International Projects in Education with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.
