A new module of the “Safety in shelters” training  has been launched: educational process during martial law — tools for psychological and pedagogical support of children and adolescents.

We’ve kicked off this module in Dnipropetrovsk region. For six hours of intensive online training, local educators are diving into the psychological aspects of working with children. The sessions begin with understanding the key concepts of “stress” and “psychological trauma”, then move into how trauma manifests in children of different ages, and conclude with hands-on case studies on how to deliver initial psychological support.

The training is led by psychologist and PhD in Psychology, Tetiana Kostenko, who ensures that the sessions are not only rich in content but also engaging for participants.

  • Importantly, by the end of the module, educators will have a clear algorithm of actions in case a child exhibits an acute behavioural reaction — whether during lessons, breaks, or in a shelter.

  • Participants will also develop a practical guide on how to talk to children about difficult topics such as death, war, and loss.

  • And most crucially for safe learning environments, teachers will be equipped with a psychological “first-aid kit” tailored for use in shelters.

We would like to remind you that the ‘Long-Term Sustainability Programme’ project is being implemented by the DOCCU NGO with financial support from Education Cannot Wait in cooperation with the international non-governmental organisation Finn Church Aid Ukraine.
