Second day of final seminar-workshop ‘Implementation of Specialised Secondary Education Reform: Regional Policy’

On 10–11 February, the final on-site seminar-workshop ‘Implementation of Specialised Secondary Education Reform: Regional Policy’ was held for heads of education departments and administrations from 20 regions across Ukraine.
The second day of the training was devoted to the practical aspects of implementing the new Law of Ukraine ‘On Vocational Education’.
Speakers at the event:
Dmytro Zavhorodnii, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine;
Valentyna Poltorak, DECIDE Project Manager;
Nadiia Balabust, DECIDE National Expert, Career Guidance Coordinator;
Olena Khytrova, Head of DECIDE Expert Group on the Implementation of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Vocational Education’;
Mykhailo Kokhanii, Head of DECIDE Expert Group on the Transfer of Property of Vocational Education Institutions.
Key topics of discussion were:
specifics of the allocation of state subsidies for the development of vocational education institutions;
creation of supervisory boards in vocational education institutions;
transfer of the property of vocational education institutions from state to community ownership;
development and implementation of new financing formulas;
introduction of a national career guidance system in communities with the involvement of businesses, vocational (vocational and technical) education institutions, professional colleges and higher education institutions.
Special focus was given to discussing practical cases – real management decisions regarding the attraction of resources for the modernisation of vocational education institutions.
During the training, the participants also visited:
Sheptytskyi Professional College of Technology and Design with its modern training and practical centres;
DECIDE culinary hub based at the Sokalskyi Professional Lyceum;
DECIDE career guidance hub at the Lviv Interregional Higher Professional School of Automotive Transport and Construction;
Sheptytskyi Professional Mining and Construction Lyceum.
We are grateful to the management team of education leaders who are working to modernise vocational education and implement reforms at the local level.
